Caught numerous redfish in Madison Canal around 1:00 on a low tide but had good current...nothing else anywhere!
Month of June
Wednesday, July 2, 2008 - 11:37:12 AM
The few trips that I did make trout fishing have been successful with live shrimp under a cork about 6" to a foot off of the bottom at the Sulphur Mines on the rocks when the winds have been 7-8 MPH or less.
Saturday and Sunday Fishing
Wednesday, June 4, 2008 - 9:21:54 AM
Caught 60 trout Saturday at Pass Wilson with Live Shrimp about 4-5' under a cork. Winds were 5-10 MPH out of the Southeast and the water had good color to it. Most of the trout were caught between 10:30 and 1:30...it was a very slow morning until that point. Sunday was an even slower morning with only one keeper trout until about 10:15. Winds were out of the Southwest around 5 knots. Pass Wilson platform had cloudier water than the day before, but I was able to get on the trout at the Sulphur Mine between 10:15 and 11:00. Used live shrimp under a cork around 6-7 feet down. Finished my limit and headed back to the camp. The boat next to me at the Sulphur Mine was fishing bottom with croaker and said that they caught 75 by 10:30.

We fished lower Madison Bay across from the camp and caught 13 trout under the birds. The corks went down continuously but the fish must be small as it was difficult to set the hook. Lots of fun fishing with the Berkley Gulp 3" New Penny Shrimp under a cork...very little effort needed. Sunday was very windy!

Tried to fish for specks this morning but had to be back by 10:00am. Caught 2 trout at the Sulphur Mine but the water was a little cloudy. Moved to the Horse Shoe Reef but the water there was even worse. Moved the the area around the mouth of the California Canal and had clear water but the tide didn't seem to be moving very much and the fish definitely weren't biting. Fished the Bay Round area but only caught a bull red, so we headed back to the camp with 2 trout. I should have stayed at the Sulphur Mine and minimized my losses. Winds picked up as the morning went on and the seas were all of 2-3' by the time we headed in around 10am.
Saturday and Sunday April 5th and 6th
Wednesday, April 9, 2008 - 7:13:36 AM
Saturday we fished the inside of Last Island and didn't do so well...the water was cloudy due to the high winds...people that I've talked to say that the fishing has been bad all week. Sunday we caught a few trout inside Last Island but the water clouded up quickly as the winds increased in the late morning. JR's cut produced 20 fish for him in the late afternoon over a few hours with a strong East wind.

Left the camp at around 5:45 and got to the Sulphur Mine around 6:30...we fished til after 7:00 and only caught one trout. We left to go to the island and fished the horseshoe reef til 9:00, we caught some really nice trout on blue moon and chartreuse. Water temp was around 72, air temp was around 72 and the winds were light out of the southeast.

Fished the Sulphur Mine and the Horseshoe Reef today. Started at the Sulphur Mine at 6:30 with blue moon w/ chartreuse tail and caught nothing...the water was cloudy. Left for the Horseshoe Reef and started fishing there around 7am. With the same lure I managed to catch my limit of trout by 9:00 am. The tide was low but had just started to come in...the water was clear with a water temp of around 63 degrees and an air temp around 70 degrees.
February Fishing
Monday, February 25, 2008 - 9:25:24 AM
So far this month has been like pulling teeth trying to catch fish...the fish seem to be small and scattered.

We traveled to the end of the road in Dularge to put the boat in and fished Lake Mechant under the birds. We fished with minnows under a cork about 16-20 inches deep and caught over a hundred trout, unfortunately we could only keep 35 of them do to their lack of length! Lots of fun...the lake is stacked with school trout!
